Tom Kirkman Pro Board finally launched

MBS Pro 100 Tom Kirkman MountainboardWe have been working on this for months, and doing our best to keep it a secret. Loads of testing and brainstorming on the actual layup and component choices then hours of pouring over graphic ideas. The graphics were done by Dan Wilson, from Remolition and Decreate. Based on some of Tom’s sketches, and then with Dan’s artistic flair, and comments from the MBS crew. We decided to release our other secret project, the Matrix Pro, to go with the board too – making this board a big step up from last year.

Tom Kirkman is an amazing rider and has been with us for a long time. He is often found at the office helping out in the busier months when we have containers and the likes to deal with. We are really happy he finally has a board with his signature on it.

Registered riders so far

Last years World Freestyle Champ Renny Myles has been out on a snowboard season going big and has already registered for the Battle. He’ll be looking to hold on to his 2009 title but theres bound to be some stiff competition from some familiar faces…

Rumours abound that the 2004 World Freestyle and Mountainboard legend Leon Robbins from Edison, USA will be joining us for yet another competition out here on the other side of the pond and is planning on laying down the gauntlet for the younger riders.

2005 World Champ Tom Kirkman will also be making an appearance after a year off due to injury. Tom is now back on form with amazing determination, new tricks and bags of style and is set to throw down after recent performances in Belgium and Germany.

2008 British Champion and Bugs local rider, Joe Dickson will be there too. There’s no one more hungry than Joe to get his hands on the title and with a winning run of back to back 720s at the first round of the UK Nationals, it’s looking like Joe won’t be leaving without a fight.

There are also entries from Marcin Skubisz – Poland , Diego Anderson – France and Ryan Slater from Australia.

All of the MBS Pro Freestyle team have entered as well, so expect to see them gunning it out for the top spot, with massive tricks from the likes of Oli Morrison, Tuai Lovejoy and Tom Read.

Many more top riders have already registered and no doubt more will in the next few weeks on the run up to the event.

A revamped and fully groomed freestyle is awaiting with 4 major hits to score the points including a 20ft box , step down jump or 14ft drop off to start , then into a fast 28ft table into a choice of three lips – one hip , one 35ft straight, one 40ft straight over the last table with a big quarter pipe to finish in style.

Judges

Joining head judge Alex Downie will be French Rider and 2007 judge Alexis Rouge and 2007 U18 World champ Steve Cownie.

Filming

The event will be filmed by Jack Johnston and team from the BFC for coverage on Extreme TV. Jack has filmed and put together some great footage for the BFC and other projects so look out for his coverage out soon after the event.

ATB Junkies will also be there with many more of mountainboardings great filmmakers also attending to capture the action.

Photography

Legendary mountainboard photographer Paul Taylor will be there for the best shots in history, accompanied by many other talented photographers including the likes of Crillpix and Remolition.

MBS Europe website redesign

New MBS Europe WebsiteWe have just launched our updated MBS Mountainboards Europe website. This new site offers a lot more information and up to date content for all the mountainboarders and kiteboarders out there. Our old site was looking dated despite the facelift we gave it last year. The problems were not just skin deep. We are very happy with our new site and hope that everyone enjoys all the new features.

Check out the new look MBS Mountainboards Europe website.

MBS Mountainboarding Show at Mini United

MBS Mountainboard show at Mini UnitedThe MBS Pro Team turned up to a wet Silverstone early on the Thursday afternoon. The ramp was set up, safety checked and tested.  The camp site was a couple of miles away. The shows started  on the Friday. It was pretty quiet to begin with. This made sense as most people should still have been at work or school! Friday night entertainment was provided by hip DJ of the moment, Calvin Harris (which we missed most of unfortunately) then some mad German techno DJ (to whom we danced to like crazy people). A good time was had by all.
Oli Morrison BackflipSaturday morning we were up bright and early to get set up and start the demos. The heat was intense. The crowds were much better and by Saturday afternoon they were huge and making a lot of noise. This of course reflected in the riding and the tricks got bigger and better. With it being a Mini event there were of course a lot of Minis about. They had all kind of things going on from toy minis for kids to classic mini racing, to new mini racing and of course loads of space for people to show off their own minis. Saturday night entertainment was provided by Paul Weller, followed by another DJ (to which we also danced like mad to).

The heat was really intense on Sunday. We ate a lot of the free iced lollies and drank as much as we could. The shows went well and we got some more amazing shots (with nice blue skies). The crowds were loving the MBS Team. Various photographers stopped by and TV crews also noticed us and did some interviews. After the last show Tom Kirkman went to cool down with a sponge bath from the Mini Car Wash girls.

This was a really good show and we got to showcase mountainboarding to thousands of people. See all the photos from the Mini United event.

Lewis and AJ claim 1st and 2nd in Swansea BKSA

Aj Philipsen in SwanseaThis weekend saw the first of the 2009 BKSA series. For many years the BKSA have been running the British Kitesurf Championships very successfully and have now taken on board the land side of things. We hoped that with with their established track record they would pull it off and so far so good. Despite difficult weather conditions (very strong wind and heavy rain on and off all weekend) the organisers managed to get the event running well and complete all the rounds.

As a venue Swansea was good. Easy enough to get to and plenty of facilities. The car park at the civic centre provided more than adequate space for everyone to stay comfortably. Having Tesco round the corner was useful too. Town was only a short walk away for evening entertainment too.

The winds were very strong all weekend. You could clearly tell who was confident in the conditions and who was not. The guys and gals in the water were going massive and the land guys showed how much the sport has come on. MBS rider Lewis Wilby came first, followed by team mate AJ Philipsen in second and Nick Austin (who also rides a Pro 90) in third.

The next event with a land competition is in Blackpool on the weekend of 28th 30th August.

MBS 2009 Products Write up

MBS 2009 Product lineThe guys over at Remolition do a great job in covering some of what happens in mountainboarding and filling in for the gaping hole left by the lack of a mountainboarding magazine. Daz Dirt Monkey turned up to our demo day at Bugsboarding and has written a great write up. He covers the 2009 product range with a load of photos as well as the joys of watching the MBS Pro team practice on the demo ramp and just riding for fun.

MBS Pro Team and 2009 Boards at Bugsboarding

MBS Pro Ramp coming to Bugs

This weekend the 2009 MBS Mountainboard line up will be at Bugsboarding mountainboard centre in Gloucester. This is your chance to preview the new line up. On top of that we have the MBS Pro Team and the MBS Pro Ramp. This is the first time the ramp has seen any action this year so the team will be getting some practice in before the first show next weekend.

Normal hire and ride will also be running at Bugsboarding.
